For purposes of this document, Illinois Sales Tax has three rate structures — one for qualifying food, drugs, and medical appliances; one for items required to be titled or registered; and another for all other general merchandise. For example, if the sale took place during January and you file returns monthly, your tax return is due February 1 and late after February 20; however, if you file quarterly, your return is due April 1 and late after April 20. Payments are due the 7th, 15th, 22nd, and last day of the month.
